Superman

So, how do you recreate something you have never seen in person, don’t have measurements for, and are uncertain of exactly how it’s built.
Well, you give it a crack. From photos, I managed to come up with some approximate measurements. My next step was to roughly draw the bars, with dimensions on. This was to be good old, backyard mechanics. No computer programs, CAD drawings etc. cardboard mock-up, the only way to go.
So I set about making a cardboard set of Superman bars!
After satisfying myself the measurements were pretty close, I contacted Clive Gillum, of Zeanche bikes. Going back to the 1990’s, Clive built steel frames, originally for his own racing use, before making frames for many other riders. Clive has recently found the time to get back into frame building and repairs, and he was the logical choice to involve in the project. After sending numerous pics and plans, and a few hours on the phone, Clive was excited about being involved in the project. I think we can all agree, the end result is nothing less than stunning.
